The main appliion of Ethyl Acetate is as solvent for several resins in protective coatings. This organic ester is also extensively used in other appliions, such as printing inks and adhesives formulations; process solvent (pharmaceutical industry); extraction solvent (food processing); substitute for methyl ethyl ketone (MEK); and flavouring/fragrance ingredient.
METHYL ETHYL KETONE is explosive in the form of vapor when exposed to heat, flame or sparks. Ignition on contact with potassium tert-butoxide. Reactive with strong oxidizing materials, and will dissolve or soften some plastics. Mixture with 2-propanol will form explosive peroxides during storage. Vigorous reaction with chloroform in the
Methyl ethyl ketone is a liquid solvent used in surface coatings, adhesives, inks for printing, chemical intermediates, magnetic tapes and dewaxing lube oil. Methyl ethyl ketone is also used as a tool for the extraction of fats, oils, waxes and resins. For surface coatings, it is a highly effective and flexible solvent.

According to the Regular Solution Theory (RST) prediction, ethyl acetate sorption in PET (Δ δ = 5.51 (J/cm 3) 1/2) should be higher than that in PLA (Δ δ = 7.80 (J/cm 3) 1/2 ). However, as Fig. 7a shows, ethyl acetate sorption in PLA is higher than that in PET. PS, with a Δ δ = 5.79 (J/cm 3) 1/2, is dissolved in ethyl acetate.
Sunnyside Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is a specialty thinner for epoxies, lacquers and adhesives, as well as polyester resins used in fiberglass repairs. It''s a fast evaporating and extremely flammable solvent, so it should be handled with care.

Overview CAS No. 78-93-3 Methyl ethyl ketone (C 4 H 8 O or CH 3 CH 3 COCH 2 CH 3) is a colorless, flammable liquid with a sharp odor. It can be harmful to the eyes, skin, and if inhaled or swallowed. Workers may be harmed from exposure to methyl ethyl ketone. The level of exposure depends upon the dose, duration, and work being done.
19/6/2019· Methyl ethyl ketone is often abbreviated to MEK and is also known as butanone, 2-butanone, ethyl methyl ketone, and methyl acetone. It is a colourless liquid with the formula C 4 H 8 O or CH 3 COCH 2 CH 3. MEK is a ketone (meaning it contains a carbonyl group bonded to two hydrocarbon groups) with a sharp, sweet smell a bit like mint and acetone.
