World MEK consumption is forecast to grow at an average annual rate of less than 2% during 2018-2023. Along with these factors the prices of MEK are strongly influenced by the price of crude oil, as well as the balance in supply and demand. This can lead to extremely volatile prices especially in times of unexpected global events and outages.

CSE and ingredients in cigarette smoke, methyl vinyl ketone (MVK) and crotonaldehyde (CA), reduced cell viability in a concentration-dependent manner. Also, CSE and the ingredients (m/z 70, each) irreversibly reacted with GSH (m/z 308) to form GSH adducts (m/z 378) in cells and considerably decreased cellular GSH levels at concentrations that do not cause cell death.
Following inhalation, methyl ethyl ketone has a biphasic elimination curve with an initial half-life of 30 minutes and a terminal half-life of 81 minutes. Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) is a colorless liquid that has a sweet odor and is soluble in water. It is a highly volatile chemical and is frequently used as a commercial cleaner and solvent for glues, paints, coatings, and printing inks. Workers are exposed to MEK when the vapors are present in the air or by absorbing the product through their skin.
MIBK was not toxic via the oral or dermal route of exposure in acute, short-term, or subchronic animal studies, except that nephrotoxicity was observed in rats dosed with 1 g/kg in a short-term study. MIBK was an ocular and skin irritant in animal tests.
