Recently, the product testing company Valisure published a study on sunscreen and benzene. The study indied that around 25% of the sunscreens tested contained benzene. This is of great concern for two main reasons: 1) benzene can be absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream, and 2) benzene is a known cause of various forms of leukemia

Benzene is a known carcinogen that can be absorbed through the skin, lungs, and digestive tract. Do not buy Johnson & Johnson’s recall covers all lots of all SPF ratings in the following product lines:
20/7/2021· An independent study by Valisure, a for-profit pharmacy and research testing lab, published on May 25th found that 78 sunscreen and after-sun care products contained benzene, an industrial chemical known to cause cancer and other potentially serious health risks. A majority of SPF’s found to be contaminated were aerosol sprays and after-sun aloe.

14/7/2021· The company took all sizes and SPF levels of the aerosol sunscreens off the market “out of an abundance of caution.” Although the sunscreens contained “ low levels of benzene ,” benzene exposure can lead to adverse health effects, including leukemia and other cancers.
Valisure analyzed 294 unique batches from 69 different companies. Even within a single company, significant variability from batch to batch was observed. Fourteen lots of sunscreen and after-sun care products from four other brands contained between 2.78 – 6.26 ppm of benzene; 26 lots from eight brands included detectable benzene between 0.11
