Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK; Other synonyms: 2-butanone; methyl acetone; ethyl methyl ketone; butanone) is a volatile, water-soluble, colorless liquid with a characteristic odor reseling that of acetone. Its odor threshold has been reported to be in the range of approximately 0.25 to 0.025 ppm (Krasavage et al. 1982, OHMTADS 1985).
Published May 1972. This report is concerned with the technology and costs of various processes for the manufacture of acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). The processes evaluated in this report are dehydrogenation of isopropanol and direct oxidation of propylene for the production of acetone; sulfation and

Methyl isobutyl ketone is also considered to be an excellent solvent for resins used in the production of surface coating and is widely used in rubber chemicals for the production of tyres. ( HSDB, 2008 ). Methyl isobutyl ketone is also used as a solvent in paint and lacquers ( IPCS, 1990 ). 1.3. Occurrence and exposure 1.3.1. Natural occurrence

Approximately 0.12% of MIBK absorbed in the lungs will be excreted into urine, whereas the yield for MEK was somewhat higher (0.19%). Conclusion. MIBK in urine is a good marker of exposure to MIBK, as in the case of MEK in urine for MEK exposure. Download to read the full article text Author information Authors and Affiliations
For the same dewaxed oil pour point, dry mixtures of methyl ethyl ketone and methyl isobutyl ketone (and also as described previously methyl n-propyl ketone) do not require as low filtering temperatures yet give higher filter rates than the widely employed mixtures of methyl ethyl ketone and aromatics.
1/1/2004· MIBK (Methyl Isobutyl Ketone) is an aliphatic ketone that functions as both a denaturant and solvent in cosmetic products. Current use in cosmetic products is very limited, but MIBK is reported to be used in one nail correction pen (volume = 3 ml) at a concentration of 21 %.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), also known as butanone, is an organic chemical with the formula CH3C (O)CH2CH3. This dialkyl ketone is a colourless liquid that has a sharp and sweet odour. It occurs in nature in a small amount. However, due to its various appliions, the industrialists produce this chemical on a large scale.
methyl isobutyl ketone was produced by three companies in the USA ( HSDB, 2008 ). According to IUCLID (2000), nine companies in Europe produced methyl isobutyl ketone in 2002: three in France, two in the Netherlands, and one each in Belgium, Germany1.

19/5/2016· Methyl isobutyl ketone (CHEM004136) belongs to the class of organic compounds known as ketones. These are organic compounds in which a carbonyl group is bonded to two carbon atoms R2C=O (neither R may be a hydrogen atom). Ketones that have one or more alpha-hydrogen atoms undergo keto-enol tautomerization, the tautomer being an enol.
