14/5/2019· 1 Answer Sorted by: 7 The preferred IUPAC name is butan-2-one. This is explicitly mentioned in the current version of Nomenclature of Organic Chemistry – IUPAC Recommendations and Preferred Names 2013 (Blue Book). Generally, the complete information about a structure is explicitly given by the name and does not rely on any implied information.
React ethyl alcohol with PBr3 to get ethyl bromide ( CH3-CH2Br ). React ethyl bromide with Magnesium (Mg) in the presence of dry ether to convert it to the grignard reagent CH3-CH2MgBr. React it with acetaldehyde (CH3CHO). Hydrate it simultaneously to form 2-butanol. Finally react with Cu at 573 K to get 2-butanone .
14/5/2019· 2. For strict IUPAC, butanone is not sufficient; the more specific name is required. For common usage, it is clear enough for most organic chemists. – Michael Lautman. May 14, 2019 at 20:13. 1. Butanone can only be one ketone. As per IUPAC it has to be named aButa-2-one.Pentanone can be Pent-2-one or Pent-3-one. – Chakravarthy Kalyan.

A. triiden. 1. If i were to react butan-2-ol with acidified potassium dichromate what would i get? I thought the butan-2-ol would just be oxidised to Butanone but my friends says different. He is saying the pottasium will replace the OH group or something? Can anyone clear this up? 1.

Butanone Butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone ( MEK ), [a] is an organic compound with the formula CH 3 C (O)CH 2 CH 3. This colourless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, but occurs in nature only in trace amounts. [7]
Alcohols can be prepared by oxidation of hydrocarbons and reduction of carbonyl compounds. Complete Answer: -Butan-2-ol is converted to butan-2-ol using lithium aluminum hydride which is L i A l H 4 it is a reducing agent which is used to reduce ketones to alcohols. Here butan-2-ol is a ketones and butan-2-ol is alcohol.

15/4/2009· 2-Butanone is the second most important commercially produced ketone after acetone. It is produced primarily by dehydrogenation of 2-butanol. 2-Butanone is used as a solvent in paints and adhesives and shows increasing demand.
React ethanol with weak oxidizing agents like PCC (pyridinium chlorochromate) it will form an aldehyde. now react this aldehyde with Grignard reagent CH3CH2MgBr (in ether) followed by reaction with acid will result in formation of 2-butanol. Now oxidation (again with PCC or CrO3) of the resultant compound will result in butanone. 2
